The British Council and UNICEF Egypt have formalized a strategic partnership to develop a cutting-edge English curriculum framework for higher secondary education. This initiative, part of Egypt’s Education Reform 2.0, aims to enhance English language proficiency while equipping students with critical 21st-century skills.
Evidence-Based Curriculum Aligned with Global Standards
Building on the British Council’s prior success in designing thematic frameworks for grades 7–12, the new curriculum will be evidence-based, contextually relevant, and aligned with international standards. The framework will integrate life skills and support holistic student development through innovative and inclusive approaches.
Technical Development and Capacity Building
The British Council will spearhead the technical development of the curriculum while conducting capacity-building sessions for the Ministry of Education personnel. These efforts aim to ensure effective implementation and sustainability.
Mark Howard, British Council Director in Egypt, remarked, “Better English skills empower young people to access opportunities and build global connections. High-quality teaching and assessment can transform academic, career, and social prospects for Egypt’s youth.”
UNICEF’s Role in Inclusive Education
UNICEF will provide oversight, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure the inclusion of gender-responsive and digitally innovative elements in the curriculum. Nathalie Meyer, Deputy Representative for UNICEF Egypt, emphasized, “This partnership reflects a shared commitment to equipping students with skills to thrive in a fast-changing world.”
